A young boy spotted in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu with a pellet gun similar to a handgun forced the confinement of several establishments, late Wednesday afternoon, in the Saint-Luc sector, including a school primary.
Around 4:10 p.m., a passerby would have seen the young man of minor age at the intersection of avenue du Parc and rue des Colibris with what appeared to be a firearm.
Quickly alerted to the situation, the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police department cordoned off the area at 4:20 p.m. since it was no longer able to locate the minor.
“It’s an area that is close to a soccer stadium, a sports center, an elementary school and where there is a daycare center. At the time of the roll call, these four establishments were packed with people, so we didn’t take a chance, “says the sergeant and head of media relations at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police department, Jérémy Levesque.
However, around 5:20 p.m., the police were finally able to find the young man who was carrying with him an air gun that looked like “two drops of water to a real one”, specifies the sergeant.
Once the police were able to confirm that no other suspects were wanted, they finally lifted the confinement of the four establishments concerned. No injuries were recorded, says Jérémy Lévesque.
It remains to be seen what will become of the young man arrested, which the police declined to comment on Wednesday.
