Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu | A helicopter crashes in a field

A helicopter crashed Tuesday evening in a field in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in Montérégie. The pilot, the sole occupant of the aircraft, escaped with “very minor” injuries.

Emergency services were called in the early evening, shortly before 7 p.m., after the Robinson R44, a light helicopter, collapsed not far from Chemin de la Grande Ligne, which was temporarily closed to traffic.

The pilot, who according to him has 300 hours of flight time, made a “false maneuver,” said Patrice Demers, head of operations for the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu fire safety service.

Contacted while he was on the scene, Mr. Demers affirmed that the man, who lives in Carignan, had clipped a high-voltage transmission cable from Hydro-Québec in passing. Some customers of the state company were temporarily deprived of electricity, but “had been replenished by another line” since.

Since there were no casualties – injured or dead – the aircraft was quickly loaded onto a cart and removed from the scene.
