An 80-year-old man is in critical condition after a fire broke out in an apartment in the Saint-Henri district of Montreal.
The blaze reportedly started around 1:55 p.m., at the corner of Saint-Jacques and Lenoir streets, not far from the Place-Saint-Henri metro station.
During the intervention of firefighters, an octogenarian was transported to a hospital center, where his condition was considered critical at the beginning of the evening, according to agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, media relations for the Police Department of the City of Montreal .
The man had burns on his arms. In doing so, “the investigation was transferred to the arson section of the SPVM” and investigators were to conduct an analysis of the scene. According to initial information, however, the fire was of accidental origin, Mr. Brabant said.
A certain number of people also had to be evacuated initially, but they have since been able to return to their homes.
