Saint-Georges | One person missing after house fire

(Saint-Georges) A person was missing on Wednesday morning following a fire which ravaged a residence in Saint-Georges, in Beauce. Five other people are also hospitalized, but their lives are not believed to be in danger.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the blaze broke out around 10 p.m. Tuesday evening in this residence in the 90e Street.

Firefighters then rushed to the scene to fight the fire. As of Wednesday morning, they were still on scene to completely extinguish the fire, even though there was virtually nothing left of the residence in question.

The provincial police force indicated Wednesday morning that a person, whose gender and age were not disclosed, was still missing.

Five other people were also taken to hospital, mainly because they had been bothered by the smoke.

Given that the event was still in progress Wednesday morning, the SQ was not able to comment on the causes that could explain what started the fire.

“For the moment, it is too early to establish any hypothesis,” said Sergeant Hélène St-Pierre, recalling that the firefighters’ intervention was continuing.
