Saint-Georges | Body found after house fire

(Saint-Georges) A ​​body was found Wednesday evening in the rubble of the residence which was ravaged by flames in Saint-Georges, in Beauce, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), “everything indicates” that it is the teenager who has been missing since the fire.


In a press release released Thursday morning, the provincial police force specified that before it can officially confirm that the body found is that of the missing teenager, identification procedures will have to be carried out at the forensic science and forensic medicine laboratory.

The identity of the victim must always be confirmed to the satisfaction of the coroner.

Following the fire, which completely destroyed the residence located on 90e street, five people were taken to hospital, notably because they had been inconvenienced by the smoke, while a teenager was missing.

The blaze broke out around 10 p.m. Tuesday evening and firefighters fought the flames until Wednesday morning, without being able to save the building.

The SQ is still investigating to understand the circumstances that caused this fire, but it clarified that “until now, there is no criminal element that has been noted in the file.”

Witnesses must still be met and expert assessments must be completed, the police force said.
