The outcome was not in doubt. AS Saint-Etienne formalized the departure of its coach, Pascal Dupraz, in a press release published Thursday, June 2. The latter had not managed to prevent the relegation of the Greens to Ligue 2, after an 18th place in the league and a play-off lost against AJ Auxerre (1-1, 1-1 [4-5] on penalties). His contract ended on June 30 anyway.

Dupraz joined Forez last December, replacing Claude Puel. The coach from Haute-Savoie took over a dying club (12 points in 18 games) and was only able to partially straighten it out. Despite an improvement at the end of winter, ASSE finished the regular season with 32 points, insufficient to avoid the red zone. Saint-Etienne will play next season in Ligue 2, a first since 2003-2004.

After a lackluster record in Caen (2019-2021), this is a new failure for Pascal Dupraz, yet described as a specialist in “missions-maintenance”, after his rescues in extremis from Toulouse (2015-2016) and Evian Thonon Gaillard (2013-2014). The name of his successor has not yet been revealed.
