Saint-Etienne and Troyes breathe, bad operation for Strasbourg which benefits Rennes … What to remember from Sunday’s matches

The fights for the maintenance and for the podium continue to thrill the supporters of the elite clubs. It was the Greens who carried out the first good operation, Sunday March 6, during the 27th day of Ligue 1, by winning 1-0 at home against the Messins. By winning against Angers, Rennes widened the gap on Strasbourg, slowed down by Reims, in the race for Europe.

Saint-Etienne and Troyes score important points

Four successes in seven games. The Greens continue to ride on a very good momentum and have won another important victory against Metz (1-0), a direct competitor in the race to stay in the top flight. It’s Dennis Bouanga who scored the only goal of the game (52nd). 17th with 25 points, the players of Pascal Dupraz come out of the red zone again.

Similar scenario in favor of Troyes (2-0), who played an important match in Bordeaux, last in the championship. After the draw against Marseille, the Trojans achieved an excellent deal thanks to an own goal from the opposing goalkeeper (28th), on a penalty from Baldé which he had first stopped. Lebo Mothiba then doubled the bet, again from a penalty, scoring his first goal in Ligue 1 since 2019. This second victory in 2022 allows Bruno Irles’ players to get out of the red zone to occupy 16th place (25 points). For its part, Bordeaux concedes a thirteenth defeat in 27 games and continues to sink to the bottom of the standings.

Bad operation for Strasbourg, Rennes takes advantage

Remote duel for fourth place between Rennes and Strasbourg teams. It was finally Bruno Génésio’s players who carried out the very good operation of the day, winning 2-0 at home against Angers, thanks to goals from Benjamain Bourigeaud (33rd) and Gaëtan Laborde (87th). A perfect scenario for Rennes, who take a two-point lead over Strasbourg in the race for Europe and consolidate their fourth place, since the latter conceded the draw (1-1) in Reims. The Rennais are only one point behind Marseille, 3rd.

Deprived of Adrien Thomasson in midfield, hit in the thigh, the Alsatians were less incisive than usual in attack. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde came to free his team in the second half on a very nice half-volley with the right foot (69th), scoring his second goal in Ligue 1 this season. But Julien Stéphan’s players did not manage to keep the score and conceded a goal from the Rémois on a free kick at the very end of the match (84th, Cadjus).

The Canaries are smiling!

Nantes continue to ride on their excellent momentum. Victorious against Montpellier at La Beaujoire thanks to goals from Kolo Muani (69th) and Geubbels (90+3), the Canaries climb to 6th place, just two points behind Strasbourg (5th) and four from Rennes (4th). The formation of Antoine Kombouaré, qualified for the final of the Coupe de France, has not lost since February 6th.
