Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, a religious philosopher and politician of the 12th century

Guided by the Virgin Mary

It is Mary who puts Saint-Bernard on the voice of religion. Born in Fontaine-lès-Dijon in 1090, Saint-Bernard turned 12th century Europe upside down with his captivating sermons. At the age of 25, he founded his first abbey following the rule of Saint-Benoît, advocating in particular sobriety. However, Saint-Bernard did not have an easy life, mainly because of numerous health problems.
