Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard | The Sûreté du Québec has been providing increased surveillance since Monday

(Montreal) The municipal authorities of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, in the Laurentians, report that since 5 p.m. Monday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has been providing increased surveillance in the sectors of the locality which have been devastated by the passage of a tornado last Saturday.

The authorities invite people who are victims or witnesses of a theft to contact the 911 emergency telephone center.

On the other hand, proof of residence is now required for people to gain access to disaster areas. It seems that many onlookers are circulating in Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard to see the damage.

About 20 residences were damaged or destroyed by the surge of the tornado which caused winds blowing at around 200 kilometers per hour.

In order to restrict access to the streets where the damaged houses are located, people now stand guard and only allow local traffic.

In the meantime, Hydro-Québec is progressing in its work to restore electricity, which was interrupted by several hundred customers in the Laurentians and Lanaudière during the violent weather on Saturday. The state-owned company recalls that the tornado caused significant damage to the distribution network in places that were sometimes difficult to access.

At 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, for the entire Laurentians region, Hydro-Québec counted 178 customers without electricity out of nearly 363,000 subscribers.
