The newspaper team Subway will welcome Saïd Khalil as editor-in-chief at the end of August, a position that has not existed in the newsroom for at least five years.
“When I bought the company [en avril 2018]there was no longer an editor in the structure of Subway and it was not my priority to add one. […] We made a lot of changes and we wanted to find a new theoretical identity before finding an editor-in-chief to guide the teams, ”explains Andrew Mulé, CEO of Métro Média, in an interview.
He announced on Wednesday the appointment of Mr. Khalil as editor of the newspaper Subway and 21 neighborhood editions belonging to the media group.
A teacher by training, Mr. Khalil worked for fifteen years at the SRC, first as a sports journalist, then as an editorial secretary for the Radio-Canada Sports website, of which he then became the editor-in-chief.
He “will oversee the development and implementation of Métro Média’s editorial strategic vision and will oversee its implementation in the form of quality reports,” Métro Média said in a press release on Wednesday morning.
The recreation of the position of editor-in-chief is a logical continuation of the changes initiated within the company in recent years, particularly since the fall of 2021, indicates Andrew Mulé. Remember that the daily Subway treated itself to a little makeover and acquired a new paper and digital identity, new collaborators and new content focusing on ultra-local information.
“The digital transformation that began more than a year ago is far from over and I hope to be able to contribute to it through my experience in this field in order to ensure that our editorial strategic vision is expressed in the form of quality reports in our paper editions, our digital editions and our mobile application”, commented for his part Saïd Khalil, saying he was “very happy and very proud” to join the team.
