A call was made around 1:30 p.m. to the Saguenay Police Department. Shots were reportedly heard at the UQAC arts pavilion, said Luc Tardif, spokesperson for the Saguenay Police Department. “We can not confirm anything at the moment,” he says.

“The thesis currently favored is that of a large stepladder which would have fallen violently to the ground, producing a noise visibly comparable to a gunshot”, explained Mr. Tardif.

Many police officers were dispatched to the scene and are still there today. Students who were confined inside the university are being evacuated. “Everything is going smoothly and calmly,” said the spokesperson for the Saguenay Police Department.

The police are continuing their investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the event.
