(Lac-Ashuapmushuan) Two female drivers were seriously injured in a head-on collision late Tuesday afternoon in Lac-Ashuapmushuan, in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Route 167 around kilometer 116, in the Chibougamau sector.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the two drivers involved in the face-to-face encounter suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital center where their lives are feared.
“A third vehicle also left the road while trying to avoid the collision,” said Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the SQ. The driver was injured, but her life is out of danger.
No other people were occupying the vehicles involved.
An accident reconstruction specialist went to the site to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding this incident.
Route 167 is closed for an indefinite period between kilometer 220 and avenue des Jardins.
