Sabotage, violence, disinformation… NATO denounces Russia’s “malicious activities” abroad

Almost a month before the European elections, the countries of the Atlantic Alliance condemned, on Thursday, “hostile state activities” led by Moscow and carried out via “intermediaries”.

The NATO countries said to themselves, Thursday May 2, “deeply concerned about malicious activity” from Russia “conducted recently on Alliance territory”. They denounce a “intensification” of“hostile state activities affecting Czechia, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the United Kingdom”.

By calling on “intermediaries”Moscow committed a series “acts of sabotage, acts of violence, cyber activities, electronic disruptions, disinformation campaigns and other hybrid activities“, accuse the NATO member states.

NATO promises to “continue to support Ukraine”

“We will act individually and collectively in response to these actions and we will continue to consult closely”continue the Allies. “We condemn Russia’s attitude and call on it to respect its international obligations, as Allies do. Russia’s actions will not dissuade us from continuing to support Ukraine.”they conclude.

At the end of March, the Czech Republic revealed the discovery by its intelligence services of a network orchestrated by Moscow which spread pro-Russian propaganda on Ukraine via the Voice of Europe website. This network is also suspected of having corrupted MEPs. In the United Kingdom, authorities indicated at the end of April that a 20-year-old British man had been charged with allegedly organizing attacks for the benefit of Russia against “businesses related to Ukraine”.

In Paris, the Minister Delegate for Europe, Jean-Noël Barrot, affirmed on April 20 that France and other European countries were “shelled by Russian propaganda” in the run-up to the European elections in June.
