(Montreal) Drivers who must renew their driver’s license by the end of 2023 will not have to go to a service point of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ). The Society announced on Wednesday that it will reuse the photos that are already in the driver’s file to produce their new licence.
People whose driver’s license expiry date is between 1er June 2023 and December 31, 2023 will receive their license by mail automatically, along with their payment notice.
“The Société invites those who already had an appointment for a photo shoot at a point of service to cancel this appointment,” the SAAQ said in a press release.
Drivers whose license expires from January 2024 are not affected by this measure, said Geneviève Côté, spokesperson for the SAAQ. She said the Company “continues to monitor the situation closely” to see if other dates should be added.
“We are currently able to reuse customer photos when renewing their driver’s license to avoid having to travel. For the moment, we are doing it for customers who are affected by the dates that are mentioned,” said Ms.me Côté, without giving more details on the reason for implementing this measure at this specific time of year.
“This is one of the measures that have recently been put in place to be able to better control traffic in our various points of service,” added the spokesperson for the SAAQ.
