Tuesday, May 28 marks the outcome of the first round at Roland-Garros, and perhaps the end of a long story for Alizé Cornet with the French public. There will be nine Tricolores on the courts throughout the day. Several candidates for the title – Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud in the men’s draw, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina in the women’s draw – must avoid spending too much energy entering the competition at Porte d’Auteuil.
A final feat for Alizé Cornet?
A breeze or the start of a final Parisian epic for the French player? Before putting away her rackets, Alizé Cornet is playing a 20th consecutive Roland-Garros tournament. The draw was not kind, since she inherited in the first round the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, seeded n°7 in the tournament, whom she never beat in two confrontations.
Ambitious Blues, a Monegasque for history
There are nine Tricolores expected on the courts at Porte d’Auteuil. Among them, Arthur Cazaux rubs shoulders with Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Winner in Lyon against the same Argentinian, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard faces David Goffin. The first Monegasque qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam, Valentin Vacherot challenges Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, with the aim of doing as well as his compatriot Charles Leclerc last Sunday.
Novak Djokovic, prince of the night?
He has not reassured during his last outings, but he remains the leader in world tennis. Novak Djokovic, world No. 1 and defending champion, will wait until the end of the day to start his tournament against Pierre-Hugues Herbert. In the night session, the Serbian is the favorite against the Frenchman, down to 142nd in the world.
