Rwanda has had its own Fashion Week for several years. If Kigali is not yet Lagos, an African temple of fashion, its creations are attracting more and more a clientele of wealthy locals, expatriates, members of the diaspora and visiting businessmen.
Rwandan brands like House of Tayo, Moshions or Sonia Mugabo have emerged in recent years in the country. The craze for these clothes made in Rwanda started when local figures including President Paul Kagame wore them. And social networks, like Instagram or YouTube, have largely contributed to their success.
Eight photos by Simon Maina illustrate this AFP report on these new young creators and maintainers.
