(Toronto) The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has rescheduled screenings of the controversial documentary Russians at Warafter suspending presentations due to “significant threats.”
TIFF says in a programming alert that the film about the disillusionment of some Russian soldiers on the front lines of the war in Ukraine will screen Tuesday at TIFF Lightbox.
The documentary by Russian-Canadian filmmaker Anastasia Trofimova has sparked protests from Ukrainian officials and community groups, who say it is “propaganda” – a claim the filmmaker and TIFF reject.
Last week, TIFF announced it was suspending screenings of Russians at War due to “significant threats to the operation of the festival and public safety.”
The film was scheduled to have its North American premiere in Toronto last Friday, and other weekend screenings were also postponed. The festival ended Sunday.
A social media post from the Toronto branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress called for “another protest” on Sunday in response to the decision to screen the film.
