The Russian army suffered a setback in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. On site Sunday, May 15, the special envoy Anaïs Hanquet takes stock of the situation.
The Russian soldiers deployed in Kharkiv have withdrawn. “This retreat of the Russian army, we could see it on the ground, it must be understood that a few weeks ago, the forces of Vladimir Putin were at the gates of the city”, says Anaïs Hanquet, special correspondent in Kharkiv (Ukraine). Within days, Ukrainian soldiers liberated several villages, in which the carcasses of Russian military vehicles lie.
“But the war is not over. If the Russians retreat, they are still present on Ukrainian territory. About thirty kilometers from here”, adds the journalist. On the front line, the fighting continues. “In the heart of Kharkiv, the atmosphere is much calmer, life is gradually resuming. Some food stores have reopened. Another symbol, from [du lundi 16 mai]the buses will run again, here, in Kharkiv”concludes Anaïs Hanquet.
