It is the third anniversary that the Russian opponent has spent in prison. Alexeï Navalny affirmed, Sunday June 4, that he kept “the moral”despite the tightening of his conditions of detention. “Clearly I would like not to wake up in this hole, but to have breakfast with my family, a kiss on the cheek from my children, to open my presents (…), that’s exactly what I was dreaming”the 47-year-old activist wrote in a post.

His supporters claim that the authorities seek to break him psychologically by regularly sending him for several days in a disciplinary cell, cells with drastic living conditions. At the same time, at least 45 people were arrested by the police on Sunday in several Russian cities, mainly in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, during actions in support of Alexei Navalny on his birthday, according to the specialized NGO OVD-Info.

Judging soon in a new case

“Life is like this: you can only achieve social progress and a better future if a certain number of people are ready to pay for the right to have convictions”, he adds. According to him, “a day will come when telling the truth and fighting for justice in Russia will become a normal and harmless thing”.

Alexei Navalny should soon be tried in a new case for “extremism” where he risks an additional 35 years in prison. Imprisoned since January 2021, on his return to Russia after recovering from serious poisoning which he attributes to the Kremlin, Alexei Navalny believes that this new case is a way to keep him in detention for life.
