After fighting in Ukraine, prisoners convicted of crimes have been made heroes and now live free in Russia.

In northwestern Russia, the village of Krestssy (Veliky Novgrod region) was the scene of a terrible murder ten years ago. In his small wooden house, a quiet 28-year-old judge was tortured all night before finally being killed. Her cousin found her lifeless body the next morning. “I arrived in this house and I found my cousin on the ground, killed. He had blood everywhere”, she testifies with a covered face. The perpetrator, Stanislas Bogdanov, was immediately identified and sentenced to 23 years in prison. Krestssy then regained her tranquility.

A shock for the families of the victims

In a video that emerged in the fall, we recognize Stanislas Bogdanov who receives the congratulations of the leader of the militia Wagner. In prison, the criminal received a proposal: freedom if he engages for six months as a mercenary for Wagner in Ukraine. After eight days at the front, he was injured and had his leg amputated. He is now free and decorated with the medal of courage. A shock for the cousin of the victim. “He came out like a hero, that’s what hurts”, she laments. Wagner declined to release the number of prisoners released. Vladimir Putin himself even decorated a violent robber on his return from the front.
