Russia claimed Tuesday March 19 the capture of the village of Orlivka, located in eastern Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky’s troops face a more numerous enemy, because Moscow recruits soldiers in Asia or Africa.

Indian, Cuban, Somali, Nepalese and Sierra Leonean soldiers were taken prisoners of war by Ukrainian troops. These men claim to have joined the Russian army to earn money. They explain that they signed a contract saying that they would not go to the front. However, they were captured on the front, on the front line. “I needed money for my family, it was not my plan to join the army in Russia”explains one of them.

Several hundred non-Russian prisoners of war

All were attracted by advertisements published on social networks, they promised visas to Moscow and salaries of 2,000 euros per month. These men were often trapped by their poverty and naivety. The Ukrainians claim to be in negotiations with India and Nepal to try to find solutions for these hundreds of non-Russian prisoners. But for the moment, some countries do not seem to care about the fate of their nationals.
