The response was quick. Russia summoned the French ambassador to Moscow on Friday April 12 after the judged remarks “unacceptable” of the head of French diplomacy, Stéphane Séjourné, who estimated on Monday that Paris no longer has “interest” to discuss with Moscow.

“The French ambassador was informed of the unacceptable nature of such statements, which have nothing to do with reality”declared the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denouncing “a conscious and deliberate action” from Paris “aimed at undermining the very possibility of any dialogue between the two countries”.

The statement by the French Foreign Minister came after a recent telephone conversation between Russian and French army ministers. “The press releases that come out [après les discussions]the reports which are made are false”Stéphane Séjourné assured the media France24 and RFI from Abidjan (Ivory Coast), where he was finishing a tour in Africa.
