Russia claimed, Thursday, January 4, to have repelled a Ukrainian attack on the city of Sevastopol in annexed Crimea, shooting down ten missiles, in a context of increasing strikes on both sides. “This was the most massive attack in recent times”noted on Telegram the governor of the city, Mikhail Razvojaïev, installed by Russia after the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula in 2014.

According to him, fragments of the downed Ukrainian missiles fell in populated areas and injured at least one person. The strategic command of the Ukrainian army, for its part, claimed on Telegram to have “hit a command post of the Russian occupation forces near Sevastopol”.

Ukrainian missile intercepted in Lipetsk region

Crimea is a key region for the logistics of Russian forces which occupy part of southern Ukraine. It is regularly the target of Ukrainian missiles and drones. The Russian Defense Ministry also assured that a Ukrainian S-200 surface-to-air missile was destroyed Thursday in the Lipetsk region, located around 350 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and rarely targeted.
