A few days before the second anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops are increasing attacks in the east of the country. The goal is to go beyond Avdiivka. The Ukrainian troops are very weakened.

Behind the front in the east of the country, Ukrainian soldiers are digging new trenches to block the Russian advance. According to the Ukrainian general staff, Moscow is preparing to launch a new offensive. “For about two months, in this sector, the Russians have been building fortified areas almost everywhere, including shelters and trenches”testifies Vadim, a Ukrainian volunteer who fights near Avdiivka.

Koupiansk, next target?

Since Saturday February 17, Russian soldiers have been inside Avdiivka. They parade through the streets of this devastated working-class city, perched on their armored vehicles. The fighting on the outskirts of the city is fierce, with the two camps facing each other. The Russians are in numerical superiority across the entire front line and are attempting breakthroughs, particularly near the town of Kupiansk in the north-east of the country: 40,000 Russian men are said to be massed in this area, as well as 500 tanks and hundreds of cannons. The Ukrainians, for their part, lack ammunition and say they are tired. Volodymyr Zelensky just moved to the Kupiansk region today to remotivate his troops, according to the Ukrainian general staff, the city would be the next target of the Russians.
