Russian authorities are sheltering children in the Russian region of Belgorod, which borders Ukraine and has been targeted by Ukrainian strikes. “Five thousand of our children are already outside the region. Yesterday, 1,300 children arrived in St. Petersburg, Bryansk and Makhachkala,” declared the governor of this region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.

The previous week, regional authorities announced that 9,000 minors would be transferred to other regions of Russia, after a series of cross-border bombings and drone strikes killed a dozen civilians on the Russian side.

Businesses called to be cautious

Children who remain in the region and live in municipalities close to the border, including Belgorod, the regional capital, will receive distance learning from April, the region’s governor added. Businesses that were forced to close due to the attacks will be allowed to reopen, provided that “staff are trained in first aid” and that adhesive tapes be stuck on the windows, he said.

The Belgorod region has been repeatedly targeted by drone attacks launched from Ukraine, more than two years after the start of the Russian army’s offensive. The latest attack, on Friday, affected an apartment building and left one dead and two injured.
