After the American green light for strikes in Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed a “step forward”. This is a turnaround in the matter of Western aid to the Ukrainians.
A building in Ukraine was the target of Russian rockets, as were numerous buildings in the city of Kharkiv, on the night of Thursday May 30 to Friday May 31. At least four deaths and more than twenty injured have been reported. One attack too many? Perhaps because the United States, in turn, gave the green light to the Ukrainians to use their missiles on Russian soil, on the condition that they not strike in depth but only at the border and in a targeted manner. It was Antony Blinken, American Secretary of State, who announced it.
This decision follows that already taken by Emmanuel Macron at the beginning of the week. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also gave his agreement on Friday May 31. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the decision. “I want to see what this will look like in practice, but I think it is a step forward towards the goal we discussed: making it possible to defend our people.”, he said. Russia responded and argued that its soil was already being hit by American weapons.
