Russia continues to exploit the ovation given to an ex-Nazi in Parliament

The Ukrainian ex-Nazi fighter, honored in the Canadian Parliament last month, is being prosecuted in Russia for “genocide” against civilians in Ukraine during the Second World War, the Russian investigative committee announced on Friday.

Yaroslav Hunka, 98, was charged in absentia, the committee said, adding that it had requested Canada’s help for this investigation.

Accused of having fought in the SS, he was applauded in September by Canadian parliamentarians, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, of Jewish faith, who were unaware of his past.

More details will follow.
