Russia claims to have shot down four Ukrainian missiles flying over annexed Crimea

The Russian Ministry of Defense said on Saturday January 6 that it had shot down four Ukrainian missiles flying over annexed Crimea during the night. For its part, kyiv declared having struck the Saki air base, in the west of the peninsula. “Saki Airfield! All objectives have been hit”Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on social media.

On Friday, Moscow had already assured that it had foiled a new Ukrainian drone attack against the peninsula, and had reported 36 Ukrainian drones shot down early Friday.

Strikes have increased on both sides in recent days, while the conflict between Ukraine and Russia has lasted for almost two years. Crimea, annexed in 2014 by Moscow, is a key region for the logistics of Russian forces, which occupy part of southern Ukraine. This territory is regularly the target of Ukrainian missiles and drones.
