The Russian army continues its slow push against an adversary short of men and ammunition. Russia claimed control of two new villages in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, June 30, after taking a third on Saturday.
The Defense Ministry said in its daily report that Russian troops had taken control of Spirny, near the Moscow-controlled city of Luhansk, and Novooleksandrivka, near the Ocheretyne salient. The two villages are located in different sectors of the front, illustrating the extent of Russian efforts to seize Donbass, Ukraine’s industrial east where most of the fighting is taking place.
