The Russian army continues its slow push against an adversary short of men and ammunition. Russia claimed control of two new villages in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, June 30, after taking a third the day before.

The Defense Ministry said in its daily report that Russian troops had taken control of Spirne, near the city of Lugansk already under Moscow’s control, and Novooleksandrivka, near the Ocheretyne salient. These two villages are located in different sectors of the front, illustrating the extent of Russian efforts to seize Donbass, the industrial east of Ukraine where most of the fighting is taking place.

The Russian army had already claimed, the day before, the capture of the small village of Shumy, near the mining town of Toretsk, one of its main axes of attack currently.
