One more step in the censorship put in place by the Russian authorities. Russia blocked the website of French radio RFI on its territory on Friday, April 15, in the midst of a crackdown on critics of the offensive in Ukraine. The media broadcasts information in fifteen languages, including Russian.
The authorities also blocked the Russian version of the site of the Moscow Timesa respected independent media outlet in Russia, accusing it of publishing “false information” on the conflict in Ukraine, assured the newspaper. The Russian telecommunications policeman, Roskomnadzor, confirmed the blocking on its site, explaining that it had applied a request from the public prosecutor’s office dated April 12.
Since the outbreak of Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine on February 24, the Russian authorities have implemented a major crackdown targeting independent and foreign media. Also, several social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have been made inaccessible.
