Six villages in the Kharkiv region have been taken by the Russian army, according to Moscow. Russia has been leading an unprecedented offensive since the fall of 2022 in the surroundings of the country’s second largest city.
In the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, a woman had no choice but to join an evacuation center, like many residents. Fighting rages nearby. “We stayed there until the last moment, but today they say the Russians are almost in our village. It’s a shame. I cried, I didn’t want to leave“, she confides.
Moscow and Kharkiv in sight
Since Friday May 10, the region has been in the grip of an unprecedented attack since the fall of 2022. Moscow has increased artillery and mortar fire and has just claimed the capture of six villages. The objective is to bring down Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city. A way for Russia to contain the Ukrainian army from the East, and prevent them from striking the Russian city of Belgorod.
