Rushing (Expanded Edition), Lucy Gooch

With only ten songs spread over two EPs, British singer-songwriter Lucy Gooch has already made a big impression. Thanks to his pure voice, first, and his endearing compositions, more complex than it seems at first listen, but also thanks to the situation, because his ethereal pop comes at a time when we all need a little comfort. While waiting for the release of a first real album, she is reissuing her first EP, Rushing, a collection of pastoral songs that its vocal harmonies and orchestrations of synths and organs raise like little clouds of music. Call it ambient song, which draws comparisons as much to the sound of Cocteau Twins as it does to the softer moments of Jenny Hval’s work. At the conclusion of this reissue, the unpublished Orthione seems to widen the sound register of the musician, the languid synths giving way to refined orchestrations of strings. Released last June, his second mini-album, Rain’s Breakis also recommended.
