With water tables at their lowest and 14 departments already in water restrictions, consumers are investing in water collectors. What about those cisterns?

In a shared garden in Yvelines, to cultivate the vegetable gardens, Anne Kieffer uses rainwater throughout the year. Water that she collects in large tanks leaning against garden sheds. “The big advantage we have here is that we have roofs so we collect the water that falls from the roofs in tanks”, says Anne Kieffer. In total, the six water collectors make it possible to irrigate this plot of 4,000 m2, maintained by 13 families concerned about the environment.

Reduce the bill

Drought episodes and the preservation of the resource explain the enthusiasm of consumers for this water recovery solution. In particular, they seek to reduce their water bill. Rainwater can be used for the garden, but also to wash the car, fill the toilet tank or even do the laundry. These uses represent 40% of a household’s water consumption in one year. A solution that is encouraged in many municipalities.
