Davies’ pact with Bayern will expire at the end of next season, meaning the German powerhouse could lose the 23-year-old’s services in 2025 without securing a transfer fee – if he refuses the contract extension offer.
Many Spanish media outlets have reported that Davies has already reached a tentative deal with Real Madrid, but Eberl said the Spanish league-leading club has not contacted him to inquire about Davies’ services. Bayern could demand financial compensation if Davies leaves the Bavarian club at the end of the campaign.
“No club wants to lose a player without getting anything in return,” Eberl recalled during a press briefing last month.
Davies, who has 15 goals in 45 international matches with Canada, has appeared in 127 Bundesliga matches with Bayern.
Davies, who is originally from Ghana but has Canadian citizenship, joined Bayern in January 2019.
The German club then agreed to pay a transfer fee totaling nearly 22 million to the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018, when Davies was only 17 years old. At the time, it was a record transfer for MLS.
