Ruba Ghazal, QS MP for Mercier, admits to voting for the NDP at the federal level.
The leader of the Bloc, Yves-François Blanchet, says he sees this as another confirmation of the fact that QS is not fundamentally sovereignist and claims to be so only when it suits him.
Surely there are sincere sovereignists at QS, he says, but they are not the ones leading the parade.
The NDP, he recalls, is the most ultra-Canadian and centralizing party, it carries the suitcases of Justin Trudeau, and constantly repeats that the nationalists of Quebec are racists.
He could have added that the latest Léger poll (March 1, 2023) establishes that 45% of QS supporters would vote NO to a referendum on sovereignty (43% YES).
He could have added that QS did not hesitate to distribute unilingual English flyers during the by-election in Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne.

He could have added that the QS program proposes a referendum on a draft constitution resulting from popular consultations, which could therefore be a provincial draft.
He could have recalled how QS torpedoed the draft agreement with a very naive PQ, and so on.
Ruba Ghazal protested in these terms: “We must stop pointing fingers at immigrants and return to the openness of the past”.
Anything.
There is nothing wrong with raising the issue of immigration thresholds and noting that people born elsewhere are overwhelmingly federalists.

Mme Ghazal felt targeted because she is an immigrant.

It is precisely an old trick of the federalists to sanitize René Lévesque to make people forget the deeply historical and cultural nature of his ideal.
If there are sincere sovereignists at QS, they should fight for real, be consistent…or quit.
