The book has been translated into 31 languages, sold over 540,000 copies and won the Governor General’s Award for Canada. Ru is now entitled to its trailer: the first images of the film adaptation of Kim Thúy’s novel are unveiled this Wednesday.
Written by Jacques Davidts and directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud, Ru is inspired by the author’s story. After a perilous crossing at sea, the young Vietnamese Tinh (Chloé Djandji) undertakes, with her family, a new life in Quebec where she will overcome the hardships, such as learning a new language and discovering a new culture. Karine Vanasse and Patrice Robitaille play two of the members of the host family who sponsors them. Ru will be in theaters on November 24.
