Royal Victoria ceded to McGill: a giant check to denounce the gesture

A few people gathered in front of the offices of Prime Minister François Legault on Thursday morning in Montreal to denounce the donation of part of the land of the former Royal Victoria hospital to McGill University.

For the occasion, the Rassemblement pour un Pays Souverain (RPS) unveiled a giant symbolic check for one billion dollars in public money made out to the private company “McGill University”.

The president of the RPS, Benoît Roy, was notably accompanied by the president of the National Youth Committee of the Parti Québécois, Marie-Laurence Desgagné, as well as the candidate for the Parti Québécois in Masson, Stéphane Handfield, and Frédéric Bastien, author and teacher in history.

For the president of the RPS, this donation made to McGill “will help to further Anglicize the Montreal region by giving a clear preference to English-speaking university institutions while it is the place where the decline of French is most felt in Quebec”.
