Meryl Streep, Greta Gerwig, Juliette Binoche, Léa Seydoux, Eva Green, Jane Fonda, Vincent Lindon… A swarm of stars, many of them women, walked the red carpet to light up the start of the Cannes Film Festival, 2024 edition.
Meryl Streep celebrated as it should be on the Croisette, more than three decades after her prize for best actress. In white, she willingly took part in the red carpet ritual on Tuesday May 14 for the opening of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, before receiving her honorary Palme d’Or.
Another American star was in the spotlight during this evening: Greta Gerwig, the director of global success Barbie, chairs the Festival jury. But for the jury, which will award the Palme d’Or to the 22 films in competition, it was a day off with the screening of Quentin Dupieux’s latest film, The Second Act which opened the biggest cinema festival in the world that even the rain did not dare to spoil. Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon and Raphaël Quenard climbed the steps in complete complicity, before going behind the screen.
