Rouyn-Noranda | Deadly Face-to-Face on Route 117

(Rouyn-Noranda) A woman succumbed to her injuries Wednesday evening in hospital, a few hours after being involved in a head-on collision Wednesday evening on route 117 in Rouyn-Noranda.

Posted at 11:22 p.m. yesterday

The victim is a woman in her sixties, confirmed Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The emergency services had been notified around 6:20 p.m. of the face-to-face encounter that had just occurred between a car and a van near kilometer 600.

“According to the information received, the car traveling towards Rouyn would have deviated from its lane, for an unknown reason, and would have collided with the van which was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the car was alone on board, ”said Sergeant Dorsainville after the accident.

The driver of the van was not injured, according to the spokesperson for the SQ.

A section of Route 117 was still closed in both directions shortly after 11 p.m., and road users were advised to take a detour during the police investigation at the scene of the accident.

The pavement was partially icy in places in the region Wednesday evening, but the SQ did not favor any immediate hypothesis to explain the collision. “The investigation is still ongoing so we do not yet have the outcome as to the exact cause of the collision, but it is indeed a hypothesis,” said Sergeant Dorsainville.

The investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is continuing.
