Rouge et Noir extend quarterback Nick Arbuckle’s contract by one year

(OTTAWA) The Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League signed veteran American quarterback Nick Arbuckle to a one-year contract extension on Sunday.


Arbuckle was likely to become a free agent beginning Feb. 14.

Arbuckle appeared in 12 games with the Rouge et Noir last season, after being acquired from the Edmonton Elks. He had a career-high 2,400 passing yards. He completed four touchdown passes and had six interceptions.

Arbuckle also had 65 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Darby Jr. stays with the Blue Bombers

In Winnipeg, American defensive back Alden Darby Jr. has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Blue Bombers.

Darby Jr., who could have claimed his autonomy on February 14, had moved to the Blue Bombers in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last October.

In his career, Darby Jr. played in 66 games with the Blue Bombers, Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts.

Malik Carney will stay with the Tiger-Cats

In Hamilton, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have come to an agreement with American defensive end Malik Carney.

Carney, who could have become a free agent in mid-February, had 30 tackles and seven quarterback sacks in 17 games in 2022 with the Tiger-Cats.

Carney has appeared in 21 games over the past two seasons with the Tiger-Cats.

Amos and the Argonauts make a deal

In Toronto, the Argonauts signed defensive back DaShaun Amos to a contract on Sunday.

Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Amos could have left the defending Gray Cup champions and tested the free agent market with other CFL teams starting Feb. 14.

In 17 regular season games last year, his first season as an Argonaut, the 28-year-old had 49 tackles and four interceptions.

Amos played in 49 career CFL games and also played for the Calgary Stampeders.
