Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie | 30 to 40 residents evacuated due to risk of collapse

(Montreal) Three residential buildings had to be evacuated as a preventive measure in the borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, in Montreal, on Saturday. They showed possible signs of collapse.

From 30 to 40 people were taken care of by the Red Cross, specifies the prevention chief of the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), Kevin Francœur.

This concerns a total of 15 apartments located on avenue De Lorimier, between rue Holt and rue des Carrières.

He explains that a call at 12:17 p.m. alerted the SIM to possible signs of collapse.

“There is no collapse as such, emphasizes Mr. Francoeur. These are signs that we have seen at the moment, then a deterioration of the signs since this morning, so the workers who are on site have taken the decision to evacuate as a preventive measure. »

No injuries are to be deplored, said a spokesperson for the City of Montreal in an email sent to The Canadian Press.

“The building owner is responsible for the safety and maintenance of his building. He cooperates with the authorities and sends an engineer on site to assess the structure, ”adds the spokesperson.

De Lorimier Avenue was closed to traffic between Holt and des Carrières streets.
