Rona will cut 300 jobs across the country, including 180 in Quebec

Retailer Rona announced Tuesday evening that it will cut 300 jobs in Canada, including 180 in Quebec, as part of a restructuring aimed at “adjusting its operating model.”

In a statement, the Boucherville-headquartered company explained that it seeks to “simplify (its) operations and eliminate inefficiencies created in recent years.”

In Quebec, the announced changes will mean that 115 positions will be eliminated at the Boucherville head office, while 25 others will be eliminated as part of a “realignment of in-store resources”.

In March, Rona will also end the daily activities of its Terrebonne distribution center, which will result in the layoff of 40 employees.

The Calgary distribution center will close its doors in October.

“Such decisions are never taken lightly, but we are convinced that these changes will make Rona a stronger company for years to come,” the company argued in a press release.

Last June, the hardware store network announced the loss of 500 jobs, citing the context of the “current economic slowdown”.

Rona has 425 corporate or affiliated stores across the country, which are operated under the Rona, Réno-Dépôt, Lowe’s and Dick’s Lumber brands.
