(Rome) World No.1 Iga Swiatek spent a little over an hour on the Central of the Foro Italico to secure her ticket for the 3e tour of the WTA 1000 in Rome against the American Bernarda Pera (71e), swept 6-0, 6-2, Thursday.
Swiatek, winner of the WTA 1000 in Madrid last weekend, will face Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (41) in the next round.e) who got the better of the American Sloane Stephens (35e) 6-3, 6-2.
The Pole won the Roman tournament in 2021 and 2022, but fell last year in the quarter-finals against Kazakh Elena Rybakina who then won the title.
