No respite for the riders of the Grande Boucle. The day after a difficult stage between Embrun and Isola 2000, the cyclists are tackling a new mountain stage, the last of this Tour de France, on Saturday July 20 between Nice and the Col de la Couillole (Alpes-Maritimes). On the 132.8 km course, the riders will first climb the Col de Braus (10 km at 6.6%), before continuing the ascent of three first category passes (Col de Turini, Col de la Colmiane and Col de la Couillole).
Undisputed leader of the general classification after his victory at Isola 2000, Tadej Pogacar no longer seems to have anything to play for on this final mountain stage, unlike his two rivals. Before Sunday’s time trial, Jonas Vingegaard could be tempted to increase his lead over Remco Evenepoel. On a mountainous course from start to finish, breakaways are also expected. Some of the best climbers in the peloton may try to imitate Richard Carapaz, solo winner of the 17th stage and provisional polka dot jersey.
