Roland-Garros: two passionate Saguenéennes made the trip to attend the tournament

PARIS | Two Saguenéennes have come a long way to attend Roland-Garros. Stéphanie Lapointe and Catherine Doré were rewarded with an autograph from Denis Shapovalov on Wednesday afternoon, after encouraging him tirelessly despite the heat.

Ms. Doré is in her third Grand Slam after the United States and Australian Opens. She has even visited the Wimbledon facilities before. It remains to see players in action in London. And we would also have to go to Montreal for the National Bank Cup.

“We bought the tickets in February in the hope of seeing Rafael Nadal, she says a little disappointed, but we discover other players like Daria Kasatkina [neuvième tête de série]. We will see [Novak] Djokovic on the Philippe-Chatrier.

Difficult for her to choose her favorite Grand Slam.

“In New York, it’s like being in a bar, it talks loudly, it chatters like in a living room, we wait for the planes to pass, listed Ms. Doré. In Australia, it’s the Happy Slam. When people see a Canadian flag, they find it very funny that we crossed the planet to go there. At Roland-Garros, people have class and know their tennis.”

Thanks to the chum!

For his cousin, this is a first experience in a major tournament. Although she does not describe herself as as big a tennis fan as Ms. Doré, Ms. Lapointe greatly appreciates her experience in the mecca of clay courts.

“I am the follower! But I like it, so if she wants to go to Wimbledon, I’m in…as long as my boyfriend stays with the three children!” launched Ms. Lapointe.

Children, don’t worry, mom will come back from a week’s vacation with little gifts!

Not easy for the French

After celebrating late the day before thanks to the spectacular Gaël Monfils, the French returned to earth on Wednesday, since Caroline Garcia was eliminated in the second round. The fifth favorite had taken the first set, but she cracked in front of the Russian Anna Blinkova, 56th in the world, who won 4-6, 6-3 and 7-5. Lucas Pouille, Corentin Moutet, Léolia JeanJean and Luca Van Assche also lost. And to end it all, Monfils announced at the end of the evening that he was withdrawing from the tournament due to a left wrist injury.

Djokovic makes his choice

Novak Djokovic did not give a journalist time to finish his question on the NBA Finals, between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets. He replied: “Jokic”. He was obviously talking about his fellow Serbian Nikola Jokic, who will try to lead the Colorado team to top honors. “I follow Jokic and Denver all the way! I really like Jimmy Butler [du Heat], who is fantastic, he’s a great guy. I really admire him. I am a huge basketball fan. I know he attends tennis tournaments in the United States, but I have to support mine,” Djokovic said after his Wednesday night victory in Paris, in three sets of 7-6 (2), 6 -0 and 6-3 against the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, 83rd in the world. Butler can, however, count on the full support of American player Coco Gauff.
