(Paris) Quebecer Gabriel Diallo advanced to the second round of qualifying for the Roland-Garros tournament by winning 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1 against Genaro Alberto Olivieri on Monday.
Ranked 166e in the world, Diallo hit five aces and won 65% of the points contested on his second serve. He converted six out of 11 break points.
The Quebecer won his duel in two hours 32 minutes.
The 22-year-old athlete will play against Marco Trungelliti on Wednesday in the second round of qualifying for the second major tournament of the season.
Diallo will try to reach the main draw of Roland-Garros for the first time in his career.
His compatriot Alexis Galarneau must face Frenchman Quentin Halys on Tuesday in the first round of qualifying.
In the women’s category, Ontario’s Marina Stakusic will face Marina Bassols Ribera and British Columbia’s Rebecca Marino will face Martina Capurro Taborda. Both matches are scheduled for Tuesday.
