(Paris) Guy Forget resigned as director of the French Tennis Open, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) reported on Tuesday.
Forget’s contract was due to expire at the end of the year. FFT officials have indicated that a successor will be appointed shortly.
Forget also stepped down as director of the Paris Masters, a position he had held since 2012. He had been the director of Roland-Garros since 2016.
The daily The team was the first to break the news. According to The team, Forget informed Gilles Moretton, president of the FFT, of his decision on Tuesday morning.
The FFT gave no reason for Forget’s sudden decision to leave his post. The FFT thanked him for his “investment and exemplary […] which contributed to the influence of these two major tournaments on the international scene ”.
Forget’s name appeared in the “Pandora Papers”, a case involving offshore companies revealed by the consortium of journalists ICIJ. The Federation’s ethics committee looked into the case and possibly exonerated it from any misconduct.
Forget is a former world-class player who rose to fourth in the men’s tennis rankings in the early 1990s.
During his reign at the head of the French Open, the Roland-Garros stadium was the scene of major renovations with the addition of a removable roof on the Philippe-Chatrier court and the construction of a new stadium.
Also, for the first time in its history in 2021, the French Open presented night sessions.
