rocket Wout van Aert wins stage 20 time trial, untouchable Jonas Vingegaard in yellow

He’s supersonic. A green jersey was flashed in the Lot, Saturday July 23, on the time trial of the 20th stage of the Tour de France. The Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) achieved the best time under the Lot sun between Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour (40.7 km). He beat the yellow jersey, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), by 18 seconds and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), third at 27 seconds from the best time.

SExcept for an accident on Sunday on the road to the Champs-Elysées, Dane Jonas Vingegaard will win the Tour de France for the first time in his career. At 26, he will thus become the second runner from his country to win the most prestigious race in the world, after Bjarne Riis in 1996. A symbol all the stronger three weeks after the big start… from Copenhagen.

Jonas Vingegaard fails to catch his teammate Wout van Aert in the final of this time trial. The emotion is strong for the Dane who is getting closer to the final victory at every moment.

His Belgian teammate achieved the same feat as in 2021, with three successes on three different types of stages. Wout van Aert, in tears after the arrival of his teammate in the yellow jersey, offered his third victory, in a time trial, after raising his arms alone in Calais (4th stage) and in a sprint in small groups in Lausanne (step 8). This in addition to his work in the mountains for his leader Jonas Vingegaard and a manifest altruism, in particular for the victory Christophe Laporte in Cahors, two days ago.

Emperor Van Aert was, in addition to that, elected super combative of the Tour, he who dynamited a good part of this 109th edition. But that will not be his main feat. With this victory in the timed exercise at Rocamadour, he improves Peter Sagan’s record for the number of points for the green jersey classification (480 points instead of 477 points for the Slovak in 2017).

Sunday, at the Champs-Elysées, the former Belgian champion should once again have ideas in mind. As if one victory called for another, as if the man was never satisfied. Wout van Aert is in any case in the same pattern as in the last edition with a victorious time trial on the 20th stage. Last year, he then dominated the sprinters to offer himself a last bouquet in Paris.
