The Israeli army announced on Saturday that rocket warning sirens had sounded in the Tel Aviv metropolis, for the first time since the start of the ongoing armed escalation with the Islamic jihadist group in Gaza.
In a brief statement, the military said the sirens went off in the Gush Dan area near Tel Aviv. An AFP correspondent heard the alerts, which so far had only sounded in localities adjacent to the Gaza Strip, from where Islamic Jihad fires rockets into Israeli territory.
